Why loyalty

A loyalty programme brings customers back more often, builds a bond and improves satisfaction. Lecy makes it possible in shops with an NFC tag at the till, without asking anything of the customer or the team. The numbers, and their sources.

Part one

Why a loyalty programme

Three measured effects of a loyalty programme on a local shop, and what the studies say.

Bring them back more often

A loyalty programme does not create the need, it settles the hesitation: between two cafés, two hairdressers, two bakeries, the customer picks the one where they have points.

  • The closer the reward, the faster customers come back. The effect was measured on café loyalty cards.

Kivetz, Urminsky and Zheng, Journal of Marketing Research, 2006

  • Retaining 5% more customers increases profits by 25% to 95%, depending on the sector.

Reichheld and Sasser, Harvard Business Review, 1990

  • 64% of loyalty programme members increase their purchase frequency.

Build an emotional connection with your customers

A reward that was earned tells the customer they have been recognised. It is that bond, more than the discount, that brings them back.

  • 86% of consumers say their loyalty is driven by emotional attachment to a brand.

Capgemini, “Loyalty Deciphered: How Emotions Drive Genuine Engagement”

  • Emotionally connected customers are 3 times more likely to recommend the brand.

Improve customer satisfaction

A customer who is recognised and rewarded is more satisfied, and more forgiving the day something goes wrong. With Lecy, they can also tell you privately before telling Google.

  • 79% of consumers say loyalty programmes make them more likely to keep buying from a brand.

    Bond Loyalty Report 2022

  • 96% of consumers read online reviews, 84% on Google, and 93% expect a reply from the business.

Part two

Why Lecy

Why an NFC tag at the till, one point per visit and nothing for the team to do, numbers included.

One second, nothing asked of the customer

The customer holds their phone to the tag. Every scan generates a unique, encrypted, short-lived link, like a QR code that changed every time: proof they were really there. No app to install, no card to stamp, nothing to type.

  • A consumer belongs to nearly 18 loyalty programmes and actively uses only half of them: every extra step loses people.

    Bond Loyalty Report 2023

  • Nearly 7 in 10 card payments at the point of sale are contactless: holding a phone to the counter is already a learned gesture.

Banque de France, “La numérisation des paiements”, 2024

  • 91% of French people aged 12 and over own a smartphone, and 70% of those aged 70 and over.

    Crédoc, Baromètre du numérique 2024

Reward loyalty, not the wallet

One visit, one point, whatever the amount. That is what makes a connected till unnecessary, and it is fairer to the regular: the customer who comes back every week counts as much as the one who spends a lot once.

  • When Starbucks moved from one star per visit to stars per dollar spent, a $2 coffee took 30 visits instead of 12. The customer reaction was overwhelmingly negative.

    Forbes, 23 February 2016

  • A card with visible progress is completed by 34% of customers, against 19% without a progress marker.

Nunes and Drèze, Journal of Consumer Research, 2006

Two minutes to set up, nothing for the team

No connected till, no integration, no hardware to plug in. You set the threshold and the reward, you place the tag, it is live. For a network, the programme and the design are defined once, for every site.

  • 6 in 10 French shoppers refuse to wait more than 5 minutes at the till, and 76% have already abandoned a purchase at checkout. Anything that slows checkout ends up abandoned, by the customer and by the team.

    Harris Interactive for StrongPoint, 2017

  • 75% of consumers will not buy from an organisation they do not trust with their data. Anonymous by default is a choice that reassures.
